BUILDING COLLAPSE: This
is with reference to the editorial ‘Building collapse’ (July 5). I do not
understand why some people often blame the Sindh government for such tragedies.
It has done a ‘good job’ by taking necessary steps to prevent such incidents in
future.
For instance, it renamed the Karachi Building Control Authority
(KBCA) as the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA). What else a government
can do? Anyone can now violate building codes, and construct 15 floors
above the permitted 10. This will allow at least some people to earn billions
of rupees and send the money into foreign bank accounts. We should all stop
blaming the seriously efficient Sindh government.
