Fraudulently elected Pakistan parliament

Justify our tax payment

Published in Daily Times on October 12, 2013

Sir: Investigations by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) have revealed massive irregularities in two of Karachi’s constituencies during the May 11, 2013 elections. Chaudhry Shujaat, head of political party PML-Q has also alleged that elections throughout the country were massively rigged. This raises an interesting legal question: if this parliament has been fraudulently elected, can its members impose taxes on the hapless people of the country? Would people be within their rights if they refused to pay taxes until fresh, transparent elections are held and a new parliament is elected? Perhaps some legal expert should look into this matter and file a constitutional petition in the courts for a decision.
