KARACHI: With reference to your editorial “Selling the strategy” (October 15), in Pakistan, those people who don’t pay taxes (or pay very nominal amount of taxes) are allowed to dictate to taxpayers how much tax they should pay and how that money is to be spent. And when taxpayers find out that most of their taxes are spent in acquiring property abroad or are deposited in foreign bank accounts, they tend to look for ways to conceal their incomes to avoid paying more taxes.

The time has come for us taxpayers to stand up and demand that only taxpayers should be allowed to vote in national and provincial assembly elections. Those who don’t pay taxes can vote in elections for the local bodies.
