MONEY TRAIL: This is with reference to the report ‘Politicians defend Dubai purchases’ (May 16). Merely saying that such properties were ‘declared’ in the relevant papers presented to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is not enough. In fact, there still remain many unanswered questions. For instance, were the properties declared under, say, ‘amnesty schemes’ that were meant to whiten ill-gotten money earned by evading taxes? Did the government investigate how the money was transferred to Dubai? What about the properties that were ‘gifted’ to them, and were these properties declared with the FBR before being gifted? Are these not valid questions?
