Sir: With reference to the letter ‘Power conservation’ by Zain Nabi (Daily Times, March 31, 2010), the writer has urged people to conserve electricity as much as possible.
While this makes sense to ordinary, law-abiding folk, why should those who indulge in electricity theft (like rigged meters or kunda connections) bother about conservation? In Karachi alone, about half the power produced is lost through theft. The people who refrain from stealing are thus made to pay more than they should. It is time to punish electricity thieves, even if they are ministers.
