The National Assembly`s
Standing Committee on Finance has recommended an amnesty for realtors and builders. Is it not ironic that
even though we have laws meant to punish criminals, our lawmakers want
self-confessed crooks to be rewarded? In neighboring India, such people were
made to pay 45 percent penalty on looted amounts to escape punishment, while in
our so-called Islamic Republic, looters and plunderers can get away with paying
only three percent. What kind of justice is this? Not a single religious or
political party has taken up this issue. And yet we wonder why Pakistan is
regarded as a failed state.
