This refers to the
editorial, ‘Parliament pay’ (Nov 26). The attitude of the information minister,
Mariyum Aurangzeb, was such that I almost expected her to say, “We could have
increased our salaries five times, you should be glad it’s only one and a half
times our previous salaries”. She and her colleagues should be told that in
India, lawmakers are paid Rs52,000 per month – amounting to $720 – while our
parliamentarians will now be paid Rs150,000 – equivalent to $1,430. So, instead
of increasing their salaries, our lawmakers should learn from their
counterparts in India.
