This refers to the editorial, ‘Karachi power’
(April 7). You suggest that K-Electric should install meters and crack down on
theft. This is impossible to do in certain places – like Lyari and Korangi –
where residents actively resist the utility personnel.
The utility company should simply stop supplying
power to localities where it cannot control theft. This will ensure that
residents come begging to be supplied electricity through meters. But the tragedy
is that the major political parties want their voters to have free electricity
which is why this problem will take a very long time to solve.
