Missing containers and customs officials

Recently, the FBR suspended 22 customs officials for being negligent or involved in the case of liquor being smuggled into the country through ISAF containers meant for Afghanistan (reported in The News of February 27). This is not the first time that senior officers were suspended on corruption charges. During the past 62 years, many government officers have been suspended in the same manner only to be reinstated later on. In any event, these suspensions are only meant to fool the public.

I suggest that this time one of the senior suspended officers be given an important post, a ministry to be exact, in keeping with our time-honoured tradition of rewarding corruption.
