New provinces
Sunday, July 19, 2009
This is with reference to the demand for a new province (Seraikistan). I wonder why any province should be named after the language spoken there. If this demand is acceded to, people will ask for the division of NWFP into Hindkoistan and Pashtunistan, while some groups in Balochistan would be tempted to demand Brahvistan, Sheedistan etc. The best solution is to upgrade the existing 27 administrative divisions into provinces, each with its own chief minister and cabinet. The post of governor (being largely ceremonial) should be abolished.
