DESPITE being known as the man who did nothing to stop the planned genocide of more than two thousand Muslims, Narendra Modi swept to victory in the recent elections in Gujarat. His victory proved that not all Indians believe in secularism. The danger is that politicians may adopt an anti-Muslim stance to win elections in other Indian states. Without doubt, Modi’s victory is secularism’s defeat.
