Penalty: non-filers
This refers to “Filers
and non-filers” (July 3), in which the writer claims that it is “our taxation
system that forces people to indulge in malpractices”. If this were true, no
one would be willing to pay taxes and the people would be out on the streets
protesting against it.
The fact is, there are
people who think it is their right to be exempted from paying taxes, which is
why the country is so poor. To impose enhanced taxes on such people
(non-filers) is an excellent measure, but the rate of enhancement should be at
least fifty percent to bring this dishonest lot into the tax net and recover
due taxes from them.
