APROPOS Rafia Zakaria’s article ‘A ban on
begging’ (Dec 14). There was a time when beggars were rounded up every two or
three months and taken away. If memory serves me right, this used to happen
during the reign of Ayub Khan, when Karachi was the capital.
The law against begging must still be in
force, but beggars share their earnings with their facilatators. One hopes that
the new chief minister reads this and does something about it.
