The finance minister recently told FBR officials
to do everything to meet revenue target collection for the current financial
year. I have a suggestion that will immediately triple tax revenue: all the
honourable finance minister has to do is eliminate smuggling.
But this will mean, of course, that a few prominent parliamentarians and other worthy citizens will be inconvenienced owing to the loss of income from this lucrative and highly illegal activity. So does he have the guts to take them head on? Or will he remain quiet while local industries in each province collapse and millions of poor Pakistanis are rendered jobless?
