KARACHI: This is with reference to your editorial “Weak measures” (October 24). The last thing the parties want is an all-powerful Election Commission, just as they do not want a powerful person to head NAB. They want to ensure that the submission of returns is delayed as much as possible and the checking of returns should take a very long time so they can enjoy the perks and privileges of being lawmakers for all five years. And if, by some miracle, the ECP does manage to find that returns contain false information and takes any action, they can always get stay orders from the courts to ensure that they are not affected.
