Dearth of power

This is with reference to your editorial ‘Dearth of power’ (June 20). The power problem will never be solved because more than half of the electricity produced is stolen. The electricity thieves are used to getting free electricity and it seems difficult that they will agree to pay for it. Adding more power to the grid will mean more pilferage and we will be back to square one.

The only way to solve the problem is to severely punish those who steal electricity. But no political party will agree to it because the power thieves constitute a sizable portion of their vote banks.
