Holidays galore

KARACHI: Sometimes it seems that the Sindh government is good at only one thing: Announcing public holidays. This year, it suddenly decided that the day before Eid-e-Milad would also be a public holiday “in connection with making preparations for Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi (SAW)”.
Since the general public doesn’t know the difference between Sindh and federal governments, many employees didn’t turn up for work in offices and factories. And because so many days are lost every year due to strikes and holiday announcements by the Sindh government, the day is not far off when holidays will exceed working days and the government will have to specify in advance the days on which schools, colleges, banks and offices should open. Of course, to officers of the Sindh government, it won’t make much difference, because they believe that working is a heinous sin.
