Water is a precious commodity

Sir: Water, which is a precious commodity, is criminally wasted and every effort should be made to conserve it. But it is indeed strange that water charges are based on the size of an apartment instead of the actual consumption. There may be two people living in a three-bedroom apartment who use less water but have to pay more than four people using more water living in a two-bedroom apartment in the same building. Every man or woman (in Pakistan) uses at least 50 gallons of water a day (compared to 160 gallons, which every American consumes daily). The only way to stop Pakistanis from wasting water is to have water meters connected to every house or apartment.
