FBR’s failure

Sir: According to a news item, a high official of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) admitted that his organisation had failed to curb smuggling. With all due respect, I would like to ask why the FBR should not be disbanded and tax collection handed over to private parties? In fact, the FBR officials are not even aware of the many markets in our major cities where smuggled goods are openly sold. Because of their failure to control smuggling, the country is deprived of billions of rupees every year and many local industries are on the verge of collapse. By disbanding the FBR, at least the country will save the millions being presently paid to its employees in the form of salaries and perks.
