Energy accord

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

The accord between the federal and provincial governments to resolve the energy crisis makes one wonder what we have done to deserve leaders like these. Although representatives of one province (Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa) did suggest changing of office timings, the brilliant men who run our country decided to advance clocks by one hour, even though there is no proof yet that daylight-saving time conserves energy. I suspect that the bureaucracy is behind this move, since it gives them more time in the evening to collect bribes from hapless taxpayers.

Again, the five-day week will benefit only government employees. Now they will be able to leave the federal and provincial capitals on Friday afternoons to visit their hometowns every week. Industry and commerce of course can go to the dogs. Naturally, no one said anything about ending electricity theft, because that would have meant losing votes. That Russian who visited Pakistan and became a believer was right: only God has saved this country from breaking up.
