Some advice for the KESC

Sir,

According to Ovais Naqvi, Chief Communications Officer, KESC, “the biggest issue facing KESC is the theft of electricity.” (Metro Mailbag, June 8, 2009). I would like to ask him just what his company has done to reduce electricity theft in the city.

One method of doing so would be to appoint contractors (perhaps ex-linemen) to detect power theft and reduce pilferage.

Besides ‘kunda’ connections, people have also rigged their meters to run slowly, as a result of which they receive low monthly bills, despite using all the electricity they desire.
