Power theft

ACCORDING to a news item, ‘Over 170,000 cases of power theft detected in Hyderabad’ (Jan 24), Minister for Water and Power Raja Parvaiz Ashraf said that 170,365 cases of power theft had been detected in Hyderabad district alone.

This is indeed incredible because it apparently means that in all the other districts of the country there are no power thieves.

We know of at least one case of power theft in Karachi in which a government functionary was involved a couple of months back.

And we have seen ‘kunda’ connections in many buildings, including police stations in Karachi. So why has Hyderabad alone been singled out while other areas of the country are not being touched?
